Haaland Habits: Powering Success Unseen
From growing up in a small farm town
To becoming one of the best in your field and a global superstar by age 23
For most of us, this sounds like an American dream, rags-to-riches, Hollywood story
For Erling Haaland however, this is his reality
The global superstar part, not the rags to riches
Matter of fact, Erling has had a highly curated rise to the top
His dad was a professional footballer before him, so he knew the path
Both his mom and grandmom had been elite track and field athletes
Sports flow through his veins
He also grew up in Norway
A country boasting solid economic and sports infrastructure
Erling has had a lot going in his favor
Regardless, it is never easy to rise to the level he has in such a short time
Actually, it would be easier for him to take it easy and enjoy a simple farm life
So, what are the guiding principles that have led to his “success” at a young age
He revealed all of this and more in a recent interview with Logan Paul
I took the time to sum it up to save you 45 minutes
(Although I highly recommend watching the interview)
Attention to detail
Haaland is a very detail-oriented person
You can see it in the way he plays, his style, his brand partnerships, his Instagram posts
Everything he does seems to be calculated and aligned with his goals
Which is of course, to score as many goals as possible
He stated that he does not believe in doing many things
He believes, “doing few things well over and over again has huge results”
His level of discipline has led to many calling him a “robot” online
But in the interview, you feel his human touch, and he is quite relatable
He is well aware of the short window he has in his life to play sports
With this perspective, he is hyper-focused on the small things that help him excel

Enjoyment (within reason)
For most, a life of such disciplined rigor would be boring and overwhleming
For Erling, he says this is the life that he enjoys the most
He mentioned that the time he spends away from football is very important for balance
During season this looks like time with friends and family where possible as he does a lot to keep his body in elite condition as you will soon find out
However, during the off season, he tries his best to have fun
One month is dedicated to being absolutely off and doing whatever he wants
Then one month is used to transition back into elite form
Of course his PR rep would have told him this is exactly what he needs to say
But with Haaland it seems believable
He knows what makes him happy and he focuses on enjoying his life, within reason
Health Optimization
There are unique habits that separate elite athletes from their peers and average humans
As mentioned earlier, Erling is regularly spending time taking care of his body
During the interview, he divulged on some of his favorite practices
Eating Clean
Despite his love for kebab pizza
He says he only eats it during his 1-month break each year
Attention to nutrient-rich foods for fuel is non negotiable
Easier done as a well paid elite athlete
Sleep Optimization
Erling says, “overall, sleep is the most important thing”
And boy does he mean it
He said he uses blue light-blocking glasses 3 hours before bedtime
He even mentioned he has taped his mouth shut to promote proper nose breathing
Surprising to me, he never uses any sleep trackers
For him, he would rather be in tune with his body than potentially put off by data points
Ice Baths
Even though Erling admitted Ice Baths are highly stressful and “not for everyone”
For him, they are a key part of his recovery routine
Last year Erling played 55 top-level games, scoring an insane 36 goals in 38 prem games
If it works for him, I reckon there is some value there

Haaland wearing blue light blocking glasses
Overall what stood out most for me about Haaland was his emotional intelligence
He is so self-aware and self assured
Yes he is young and maybe has not had to face many demons in his life
But there is something truly inspiring about seeing someone so growth-oriented
TL/DR:
3 things that make Erling Haaland an elite performer:
Attention to detail
Enjoyment (within reason)
Health Optimization
