CG #028: The Secret Framework To Get Whatever You Want

The Secret Framework To Get Whatever You Want

If I offered you these, would you take them?

  • Free stays at hotels

  • Paid work with brands

  • Free gym memberships

You will want to keep reading…

Over the past 7 years I have had all those things

In reality, I probably had no right receiving them

Today I will show you how you could do the same

Anyone can do this, you do not need to be special

Actually, I did all of this in periods when I was:

  • Inexperienced

  • Self-doubting

  • Broke

It worked because I understood the concept of trade of value

I’m sure you have come across this concept before

Today I want to share my framework for getting whatever you want

1. Do Some Digging

Who is the best person to talk to about what you want?

Figure out who this person is

Put yourself in their shoes

What are their:

  • Desires

  • Loves

  • Fears

What are the questions that keep them up at night?

Pro tip: Check their social media to find common ground

Now you can start to understand what they want

This is a crucial step for your success

If you can’t figure this out it is not the end of the world

Finding some common ground will help with what is next

2. Reach Out

Opportunities do not wait around until you are ready

Most times they never come to you at all

You have to go out and create them

Step two is where 80% of people will quit

But if you are reading this then that’s good news for you

You aren’t a quitter, so it means less competition

This stage is where you initiate conversation

Choose the medium that is most appropriate:

  • In person event

  • Social media

  • Email

The non negotiable for this stage?

Lead with value

The best initial value IMO…

A good conversation

People love themselves

Talk about something they like or do well

A small genuine compliment works

You should have ideas from viewing their socials

Remember…

The point of the initial convo is not to make an ask

The point of the initial convo is to find a second time to make an ask

Sometimes this will be arranged during the first chat

Sometimes just building good rapport is enough,

This opens the gate for you to reach out via a different medium

Once you have left a memorable impression, your job is done

3. Negotiate

Here is where you can easily drop the ball

Most people “lose” this phase for one of two reasons

a) They don’t know what they want

OR

b) They ask for too much

Make a reasonable ask and make the terms of you desires clear

Be assertive but not pushy

Never make it seem as though you NEED this to work

If it does, cool. If it does not, cool.

Be precise, do not waste people’s time

Most importantly, do not be afraid to hear NO!

4. Overdeliver

At this point, you have their attention and trust

After you negotiate a favorable exchange, the ball is in your court

At bare minimum, do everything in your power to deliver

In cases where you can, overdeliver!

Go the extra mile to ensure they do not feel short changed

Speed is of top priority here

You do not want to miss deadlines or make things drag on

Get what you want, deliver on what you said

Move on.

5. Get Feedback & Document

Depending on the nature of your trade of value you will want feedback

I always like to know how people felt about how the interaction went

It is common courtesy at least

No one likes to feel as though they made special provisions and got ghosted

It makes everything that happened before feel transactional

In cases that make sense, be sure to document your experience

At minimum, document the particulars of the exchange

If the exchange went well, the person might want to do it again

In this scenario, you now have leverage

Be sure to keep the principles central and put people first

If things go well, do not be afraid to re-engage conversation

This framework will help you in:

  • Launching a business

  • Networking

  • Dating

Never forget…

You can NOT have everything, but you CAN have what you really want!

So be clear about your true wants and desires

Be proactive and create the future YOU want!
