Today's edition be a 7-minute read.

Let's dive into it.

As I sit to write this, the year is swiftly coming to an end.

Things have changed quite a bit for me this year.

Admittedly, seeing growth is not surprising.

However, I have never felt this way about my growth.

This year, it feels different.

Previously, I felt like I was running away from pain.

Now I feel as though I am running towards purpose.

Same drive, different motives.

Admittedly, I have had my share of obstacles over the past years.

The one thing that keeps me going? Relentless self-improvement.

In 2018, when I broke a bone in my foot, I had a realization.

I needed to diversify my interests and skillsets.

At the time, following curiosity, I stumbled upon online marketing.

I started learning and connecting with others online.

I came across many people preaching their views.

They shared health and business optimization tips.

I tried as many as I could and a few stuck.

2023 is the year I feel like I “got it right”.

I have never been more settled within myself and my habits.

Here are the ones that stuck for me:

1. Writing

Writing daily has helped me:

  • overcome my fear of being seen online

  • reevaluate my life scenario

  • categorize my thoughts

  • explain myself clearly

  • heal my trauma

I was always a person who knew the importance of and practiced journaling.

However, writing online is different.

The real-time feedback, support, and sometimes ridicule add another level of accountability.

Whether you share online or not, I 10/10 recommend building a writing habit.

2. Meditate

Interestingly enough, my writings on meditation all perform well!

Here I shared my perspective on meditation!

Here I share a POV of what it can feel like to meditate!

I am no expert in the field.

What I do know? I am always more calm and productive when I am practicing meditation consistently.

Am I perfect? Heck no.

Will I continue to build this habit? Hell yes.

I truly recommend you learn a bit more and try it for yourself.

My first exposure to the concept was in the book The Mindful Athlete.

Add it to your reading list for next year.

Onward.

3. Wear Sunscreen

Suffering from breakout circa 2021

Clearer and cleaner skin in 2023

I have had a mixed relationship with skincare.

When I say mixed, I mean, I have done it on and off.

I was stuck in a cycle.

Good skin → slack on skincare routine → shit skin → Start skincare routine → Consistent until I get good skin (repeat)

My cycle of struggle and inconsistency with skin care

The problem with my routine was that it was unsustainable.

I would exfoliate and use 3-5 different products after every time I showered.

Turns out this was not only too much work, but bad for my skin.

I found out that because I have sensitive skin.

Meaning I should only use 1 active ingredient at a time.

This prompted me to change from a routine to a principles-driven approach to skincare.

My new skincare principles:

  • wash face with a gentle soap during each shower

  • use ONLY paper towels on my face

  • moisturize after every shower

  • exfoliate once per week

  • wear sunscreen daily

My only rule is: Wear sunscreen every day no matter what the weather is like.

Maybe something you should look into, especially if you live in the Caribbean.

4. Check ALL Bank Accounts Daily

If you feel like you are struggling financially, I strongly recommend doing this.

This was the first habit I developed when I left college.

I cannot remember who I heard it from, but it was the first step in rewiring my brain about money.

This works because it helps you to understand when and how much you spend.

You quickly understand:

  • when subscriptions are leaving your account

  • how effective you are at earning

  • the “pulse” of money

This helped me amend my spending and optimize my earnings.

This was the first step towards helping me develop my core values around money:

1. Money is a tool that enables me to live the life I want; my life is not a tool to make the most amount of money possible.

2. My energy is always better spent on earning more than spending less.

My core values surrounding money.

Admittedly, I no longer check my accounts daily.

I do however keep a spreadsheet that I update 1-2 times per month.

Where attention goes, energy flows.

Want more money? PAY attention to it.

We move.

5. Undistracted Work For 4 hours

Regardless of the day, I will sit my a$$ down and do the work.

At first, this was difficult, but now I have to actively try not to work on weekends.

Why 4 hours?

Flow.

It takes time for you to get into flow states.

Too short and you never get there.

Too long and you have expended too much energy to function at peak.

I was never a person to pull all-nighters in college, they never worked for me.

4 good hours is all I need.

Doing this work over time is how you compound toward progress.

One key to my success with daily work was creating daily non-negotiables.

These change by the season depending on my main goals.

Choose 2-3 tasks that you do FIRST, every single day.

Knock them out and keep the momentum running for the day.

I cannot express how important it is to write these down.

This is vital to tracking your growth and matching events back to actions.

This stuff is boring, but it is necessary for growth.

Honorable Mention - Exercise/Working out

This was not included because admittedly I do not work out every day.

You do not need to.

3-4 days a week of exercise is key to having balance in my life.

I could write a whole book on exercise and its benefits.

And who knows, maybe I will.

I urge you to take a look at your actions from this year.

Can you come up with 5 things that you did almost every day this year?

You would be surprised how many things you do every single day without thinking about it.

TL;DR

5 Daily Habits To Make 2024 Your Best Year

  1. Writing

  2. Meditation

  3. Wear Sunscreen

  4. Check ALL Bank Accounts Daily

  5. Undistracted Work For 4 Hours
