Let's get it.

Failure Is Inevitable Without This

Today is March 2nd, 2024.

It’s my little brother’s Birthday.

Happy Birthday Chris!

See, Chris would have been 23 years old today.

I can’t imagine what he would be doing, but I know he would be good at it.

Losing Chris was the first domino in a tough period of my life.

Even today I look back and wonder how I held myself together.

I am no saint, but the only thing that saved me was doing the personal work.

Journaling, meditating, therapy, and when all else failed, distracting myself.

I believe some periods of life are for thriving, others, for surviving.

Surviving helps you to keep perspective in times of thriving.

Surviving teaches you the most about yourself.

The scary part? It usually creeps up on you.

This week I heard someone articulate it brilliantly.

They said, “We naturally gravitate towards destruction and stagnation.”

They added, “We have to be intentional about growth or destruction will take over.”

That was the biggest lesson I learned from going through my tough times.

It was the first time I had to battle with:

  • low self-esteem

  • negative self-talk

  • questioning reality

It was so different from the person I was accustomed to being.

I was always the high-energy-motivational guy.

Never too outspoken but more than capable of holding my own in conversation

Then, all of a sudden, I questioned everything:

  • my path

  • my choices

  • my aptitude

I can’t imagine having to go through that twice in my life.

And I hope you never have to.

But I know if you do, you will be better off for it.

At my lowest, I made a decision.

“Never let my ego get in the way of doing whatever I need to do to advance!”

Why?

Life is simply too short.

Chris taught me that.

He also taught me that it’s sometimes the people close to you that you know the least.

Why? Because you think you know and understand them.

You overlook having the hard conversations.

It’s easy to be surface-level, because…you already know everything about them right?

Wrong.

Okay, I am rambling a bit, and I don’t want this to be morbid.

Here is my point.

Personal work will do more to transform your life than any growth hack, promotion, new love, new toys, vacation, or honeymoon.

If you neglect personal work, nothing else matters.

The bill for the personal work is due daily.

Sure, you can skip a day or two.

The problem happens when it’s been three months and you feel like you hate yourself.

You don’t, but you have not tediously tuned your brain to realize you don’t.

Remember, left to its own accord, your brain will convince you that everything is shit.

This is why you have to force yourself to view the whole picture instead of the daily mundane.

What exactly is the personal work?

It’s different for everyone.

Survival mode usually teaches you what works for you.

The practices could be:

  • exercise (highly recommended)

  • meditation

  • journaling

  • therapy

  • dieting

  • prayer

The list goes on…

“Everything ain’t for everybody.”

Figure out what works for you.

Schedule it.

Be proactive, intentional, and persistent.

Allow personal work to be the bedrock that your dream life is built on.

Any other bedrock will result in your inevitable crumble.

Sorry if I was a bit bleak today.

Sometimes I gotta keep it real with you guys.

Wishing you a March that far exceeds your expectations!
