The Most Underrated Soft Skill

What is the number 1 predictor of career success?

I have my answer and it’s probably not what you think.

And no, I am not talking about:

• Industry

• hard work

• mentorship

Heck, you might not even agree…

In my opinion, the most underrated predictor of career progress is transparency.

Transparency with yourself and the people around you.

Clarity and transparency go hand in hand.

It’s hard to be open and honest about a direction you are unsure about.

With transparency as a core value, it forces you to adopt structure and clarity.

Clarity + Good structure + Transparency (allowing others in) = Progress

To sum it up in one statement I heard recently…

“You will be successful to the degree you are willing to be transparent about your reality.”

One easy way to be transparent?

Document and share your journey online!

Share it all:

• Wins

• Losses

• Setbacks

• Come ups

Sure, there is value in silent wins.

Also, losses can hurt your reputation.

But there is something gained long-term from being transparent about your ability and journey that no degree, referral, or resume can make up for.

Or at least that is my opinion.

I recently heard Mark Cuban talk about his work with Cost Plus Drugs.

How they are revolutionizing the pharmaceutical industry by introducing transparency.

It made me realize that the same phenomenon is happening right now in online work.

Less:

• flashy influencers

• people flaunting $$

• over-edited looks and production

Instead, we are seeing people who are “walking the walk” find their success.

The raw transparent contractor is winning the deals, the honest deals.

Brands want to work with the most authentic creators, no matter the follower #.

Whether you are an entrepreneur, employee, or intern.

Transparency is the fastest way to elevate your presence in a market.
