What Would Zuck Do?

As I embark on a mission to build more community I have been trying to learn as much as I can from the best to do it.

Many creators come to mind but when it comes to online community building, one person stands out as the builder of builders, Mark Zuckerberg.

Recently I’ve been watching a lot of videos of young Zuck.

While he benefited from being raw, smart, and well-positioned, he always seemed to speak from a very “corporately responsible” place.

This sometimes came off as pretentious and slightly fickle to me.

However, looking back after all these years, it is clear he wasn’t faking it.

He was truly committed to the building and to creating real lasting change with his company originally called “The Facebook.”

From his earliest interviews, Zuck seemed to be laser-focused on a few things:

  • Creating something valuable

  • Using his creativity to solve problems

  • Meeting the customer where they are at

More importantly, he acknowledged that he had no idea what the future held, but he was determined to play a part in creating it.

But don’t just take my word for it, take a look at a few of the interviews I watched and compare the way he spoke about his company and his goals to the way he speaks about it now.

Different problems, same big vision, same focus, same determination to figure things out and play a key role in the future of emerging technologies.
