Today's edition will be a short 4-minute read.
Let's dive into it.
Hellooo it’s me again!
I am writing from Stanstead airport in the UK this morning.
It feels like a miracle that I will be getting on my plane.
Quick summary.
I planned everything and left home with decent time to get my flight.
After following Google Maps to get on the “76” bus I realized I was on the right bus, but we were heading in the wrong direction.
Annoying, but no problem.
Hopped off the bus, and got on one going the other way, but, by this time google started telling me I would miss my original connection and now I should take a completely different route.
With valuable time slipping away, I made the executive decision to jump off and get on an Uber.
Uber made it to the airport in great time.
Feeling good.
Then I was put on the slowest line ever to get my boarding pass. Apparently, they needed to confirm I did not need a visa to go to my destination. You would think this would be automated.
My flight was scheduled for 10:20 so I thought I had time. After the long wait, a frustrated and on-edge employee struggled with the printing machine and gave me my boarding pass which said that I needed to get to the gate at 9:50. The time was 9:35 and I still needed to clear security.
Slight panic.
As I rushed to security I couldn't help but think about the amount of jobs that AI would completely replace.
Finally, I made it through the line and it was 9:45! BUT…suddenly my bag got pulled aside for a search.
At this point I had already accepted it would all be a miracle if I made the flight.
Then I got an email.
YOUR FLIGHT IS DELAYED BY 1 HOUR.
Unsure how to feel, I walked forward to my bag as it was selected to be searched and the guy just gave it to me. No search. Nothing. He said, “Sorry about that mate".
Slightly infuriated I decided to rush to my gate to be sure.
I get to the airport board to see my gate (it was not printed on my boarding pass) and it says “Check for your gate at 10:20.”
Then the words on the board rotated and it said: “Relax.”
RELAX!?
Well…maybe this is a metaphor for my life.
Sometimes I feel like I am behind, or as if I’m wasting time waiting on other people and I even come down on myself hard for making mistakes.
Maybe I need to relax and accept that even though my goals are delayed (perception), I will still arrive at my destination.
Maybe it applies to you as well.
Anyway.
Switching gears.
It’s the end of June
This means half of the year has silently passed us by.
It’s a good time to take stock of how your year has gone and decide what you want to do differently for the next half.
For me, it’s all about maintaining momentum.
I spent the beginning months of this year tirelessly trying to systemize everything that I did.
I spent time getting very clear on the person I want to be and outlining exactly what it takes to become that person.
Now, I am executing relentlessly on a week-to-week basis.
Some weeks are tougher than others.
Sometimes I wonder why the hell did I choose this path.
Sometimes I am tempted to change course or take a break.
But in these points, I try to remind myself:
this is objectively what doing something hard feels like
this is the point where most people quit
to be present and focus on the WIN (What’s Important Now)
Still, there is always room for improvement.
Here are 6 questions I will ask myself at this half-year point before we embark on another sprint. (I encourage you to do the same)
Reflection:
What is one thing that brought me unexpected joy?
What is one thing that is much easier now than when I started?
Who is one person who provides a safe space for me to be myself?
Projection:
Who is one person I want to spend more deliberate time with?
What is one task I perceive as challenging and I know will push me closer to my goals much faster but I have been avoiding?
What is one thing I need to cut back on to create more inner peace?
You know the drill. Don’t spend more than 10 minutes on this. Write down the first things that come to your mind. Create some action points where necessary. Review them when you can.
Let’s build.
p.s. I made it to my destination. Watch my YouTube to find out where it is. (Or wait till next week haha)
